Bob filmed the celebrations in Chinatown to welcome the Olympic torch. This is now the first film on Bob’s new Youtube account.
The Olympic torch was welcomed to London’s Chinatown by excited crowds and performances from traditional lions and dragons. The protests did not flare up here, though there was one — most unwelcome — Tibetan flag (you can see it to the right at points in this video).
On a similar note, images from the relay including those posted earlier can be found on Bob’s new Flickr account.

I’ve actually had some sympathy for Tibet in the past, but whatever I did have has been all but undone by the stupidity and almost drunken disruptiveness of those “pro-Tibet” protestors. If these idiots actually cared about Tibet, then they’d take some Chinese classes and go to China to talk to people there.
Instead, they piss away everybody’s time and resources taking part in borderline violent protests, even physically assaulting one of the torch-bearers by trying to extinguish the flame itself.
From what I’ve been hearing lately– even by some friends who very much are pro-Tibet– the so-called “peaceful protests” by Tibetans weren’t exactly so peaceful. Apparently, a number of shops, both Tibetan and Han, were sacked by looters, and two Chinese girls were burned to death by Tibetan rabble-rousers.
Sorry, but that’s not exactly going to gain much sympathy from the world.
Interesting that propaganda in USA and British media has tried to portray the Tibetans as poor little innocents, despite the fact of the violence and the vandalism by Tibetans directed against the Chinese and fellow Tibetans there.
China isn’t stupid, and it knows what the lesson is: No matter how benevolent and calm China becomes on Tibet, the propagandists in the Western media will continue to attack it. Doesn’t matter what they do.
IOW, the only way for China to make the problems in Tibet and Xinjiang go away, is to thoroughly populate them with Han Chinese (and lift the one-child rule for Chinese who settle there), aggressively require the Chinese language in all transactions in education, and encourage emigration of Tibetans and Uighurs to other regions of the country.
So, congratulations to the pro-Tibet idiots and their boneheaded radicalism, you’ve just ensured ruthless actions against Tibet and Xinjiang, since the Chinese government now recognizes these as the only way to finally put an end to separatism in the region.
I only hope that some remnant of Tibetan/Uighur culture can still survive there. It would help for the Free Tibet people to just shut up for once and do something smart.
